The pop star revealed that Drake has been following her since the release of “Havana” in 2018. “I de-met him, and then I played him my album, and he f—ed with it. I sent the idea for 'Hot Uptown’ and wrote my part. She continued, „It was a dooper because he didn’t necessarily give me an outro, but I didn’t want to hear a song like, 'Hot Uptown,’ and then go into this one-minute thing where he’s talking — so we decided to make it another song.”
