Ben Stiller, Mark Hamill and a host of other stars have jumped to Martin Short’s defense, calling the Emmy Award winner „tired, sweaty and very funny” in a version.
The Slate op-ed, entitled „Why we keep dealing with Martin Short,” criticized Short’s comedy career, describing his characters as „incredibly annoying” „over the top characters”.
After the article was published Friday, several of Short’s colleagues took to social media to publicly praise the „Only Murders in the Building” actor. Fellow „Saturday Night Live” alum Ben Stiller wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), „Martin Short is a comedic genius. Finish the story.”
Mark Hamill, the original Luke Skywalker of the „Star Wars” franchise, compiled a collage of some of Short’s comedic characters throughout his career, saying, „It’s hard to believe people actually debate whether Martin Short is funny or not. Newsflash: He’s hilarious.” #Comic Genius.”
„SNL” comedian and „Better Call Saul” actor Micheal McKean wrote, „The guy really blew the lid off the whole Martin short story, didn’t he?”
„Heirs” J. Smith-Cameron directly criticized writer Dan Goise’s comment post: „The infamous Martin short essay is filled with clips or references to characters that the writer finds somehow annoying, but the essay is a Valentine. Regardless.”
John Cusack praised one of Short’s characters from „Second City Television,” saying, „I don’t know what people think of Ree Martin Short — but I really like his Mr. Rodgers boxing match.”
