ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan has appointed Babar Azam as its white-ball captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi's T20I series has ended.
„Following the unanimous recommendation of PCB's Selection Committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as the white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan Men's Cricket Team,” Pakistan Cricket Board X, formerly known as Twitter, said. Sunday.
Babar stepped down from the all-format captaincy after Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup in India last year. But under Afridi's leadership, Pakistan lost the T20 series in New Zealand 4-1.
New PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also not particularly warmed to Afridi, especially after the left-arm pacer had a poor Pakistan Super League, with his franchise Lahore Qalandars – winning just one of 10 league games under his captaincy. Finished last in the competition.
