Atalanta beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield and Leverkusen beat West Ham 2-0 in the Europa League.

Gianluca Scamacca scored twice to beat visiting Liverpool 3-0 in Atlanta on Thursday in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The loss damaged Liverpool's hopes of a treble in manager Jurgen Klopp's final season at Anfield.

The Italian visitors went 1-0 up in the 38th minute when a low drive by Scamacca hit goalkeeper Gaomin Kelleher.

Klopp sent on Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szobozlai and Andy Robertson as substitutes in the second half, but Skamaca scored again after Charles de Keteler fed him at the far post on the hour mark.

Mario Basalic completed the scoring in the seventh minute.

Atalanta won 2-0 at Anfield in the group stage of the 2020 Champions League.

Liverpool won the English League Cup and are in a tight Premier League title race with Arsenal and Manchester City. Klopp's side were knocked out of the FA Cup in the quarter-finals.

Thursday's lackluster display could turn out to be Klopp's final European game at Anfield. A big comeback is needed in Bergamo to keep the team alive.

If Liverpool reach the Europa League final in Dublin on May 22, it will be Klopp's last game in almost nine years.

Bayer Leverkusen scored late goals from substitutes Jonas Hoffmann and Victor Boniface to put West Ham 2-0 up and extend their unbeaten run to 42 games in a season that would end with a treble.

Hoffman scored a rebound in the 83rd before Boniface earned a deserved win with a stoppage-time header.

With a 16-point lead in the Bundesliga, Xabi Alonso's side are on course to win their first league title and reach the German Cup final.

Milan didn't even reach the final – something Roma achieved twice, failing both in 1991 and last year.

Rafa Silva and veteran forward Angel Di Maria scored in each half for Benfica to beat Marseille 2-1. In the meeting of two former European champions. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back for Marseille, who lost their fifth straight game in all competitions.

Aubameyang has scored a total of 24 goals this season.

The second leg matches will be played next week.

Fortonis opened the scoring eight minutes later, netting his fifth goal of the European campaign. He then doubled Steven Jovetic's lead before the break.

Cquinho made it 3-0 with a precise low drive before Dusan Tadic pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Olympiacos are one of two Greek teams in the last eight hoping to reach the final at home in Athens.

Ollie Watkins and captain John McGinn scored at the start of each half as Aston Villa secured a 2-1 win over Lille for manager Unai Emery, who has won the Europa League four times – three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal.

Viktoria Plzeň drew second-tier Fiorentina 0-0 last year, the first European quarter-final for the Czech club, who have not conceded a goal in seven consecutive games in the third-tier competition.

As Fiorentina dominated the second half, the game was halted for several minutes due to flares thrown onto the pitch by their fans.
