Meet Miles, who doesn’t just master pBone.
„This is my trombone. It’s called the pBone because it’s for kids,” said Miles as he demonstrated how to play the C chord on the instrument.
He’s also good at guitar, piano, saxophone, drums, violin – and those aren’t even his amazing talents. By the age of 7, Miles could edit all those sounds together, use sophisticated software to add his own songs or recreate other artists’ hits, observe.
„Do you remember an early song where you were like, 'Oh my gosh, I can really do this. I can play this whole song,'” asked reporter Luke Burbank.
„Knock on Heaven’s Door” [by Bob Dylan]I guess,” Miles said.
„Really?”
„Yeah, it’s easy,” Miles replied.
Well, it’s easy for „Miles the Music Kid” anyway. Miles knows a good song when he hears it, and several celebrities are taking notice, including musician and producer Questlove.
„Miles, my man. My bear,” Questlove told Miles in a video.
Remember those drums? They are a gift from Questlove.
He’s also received shout-outs from some of his favorites when it comes to music production, including singer Charlie Puth.
„Miles. This is for you,” Bud said during a concert.
and DJ and legendary music producer Mark Ronson himself.
„People like Mark Ronson call you a musical genius,” Burbank said.
„Yes,” replied Miles.
„How’s that for hearing that?”
„Um, very happy and very. Very happy.”
It certainly helps that Miles has a perfect pitch. But believe it or not, his parents were not professional musicians.
„I’m just focused on being an amazing mom,” Miles’ mother said.
„On social media, a lot of times people comment and say, 'Oh, sure, Dad’s this big-name producer. Who is he?’ „They’re trying to guess which big producer is dad. Yeah, you know, it’s nothing,” Miles’ dad said.
Miles’ dad, a software developer, started sharing videos with his friends and family a few years ago. They convinced him to start posting on social media for the whole world to see. Despite all the attention, Miles’ parents are trying to preserve at least some sense of normalcy in the family, which is why „CBS Sunday Morning” has asked not to fully identify them or Miles.
„I mean, it’s a small part of his life that we’re trying to separate from his real personal life,” his mom said.
„Our first job as parents is, first, to protect our children. Second, to do things that will help them thrive,” his dad added.
„You’ll be equally happy for him no matter what career path he chooses,” Burbank said.
„Sure,” Miles’ dad replied.
„Then I want to show you the song I’m working on,” Miles said.
„What’s its current title?”
„Best song ever,” Miles said.
„Okay. I like it. Be modest. How long have you been working on The Coolest Song?” Burbanks asked.
„A few days.”
As far as where Miles ends up professionally, he told „CBS Sunday Morning” he wants to be a musician/coder/chef. It’s clear he’s on the right track — or tracks.
