One of the first transfers of the Mauricio Pochettino era looks set to be an exit deal with N’Golo Kante agreeing to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ittihad. Barring any late hurdles, the 32-year-old will join compatriot Karim Benzema at the club for the 2023/24 season after it was announced on Tuesday.
Conte was ready to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge under Pochettino, but no agreement was reached, leaving the Saudi Arabian champions to step up with a sensational offer. The midfielder will earn €100 million (£86m) per season after signing a two-year deal, with an option for next season.
Adding midfielders seems to be a priority this summer, so losing Conte is a real blow. However, to add some context, the former Leicester man has missed most of the 2022/23 season through injury, which makes his exit less disappointing.
The Blues will now face the upcoming campaign without their engine room operator as Conte completed his Al Ittihad medical in London this afternoon, according to Fabrizio Romano. The move has yet to be fully finalized, although there are only a few final documents before it can be announced.
