Manchester United are still in the middle of a takeover battle between Sir Jim Radcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani – with the transfer window set to open
Manchester United can return to the Champions League if they avoid defeat by Chelsea at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Erik ten Hoag’s side are fourth in the Premier League table, three points ahead of Liverpool in fifth. With their campaign coming to an end at Fulham on Sunday afternoon, United need just one point from their final two matches to seal their fate.
Den Haag is confident his players will be able to get over the line against the Blues, especially as the acquiring counterpart continues to pull away. The transfer window is still a month away from officially opening. With that in mind, here are the latest headlines from Old Trafford.
Will Qatar advance?
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) is interested in buying Brazilian club Santos.
The rumor comes as Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is attempting to take over United. The Glazers were put up for sale by United in November, with Sheikh Jassim battling INEOS chairman Sir Jim Radcliffe for ownership of the club.
Radcliffe is expected to win the takeover race as he wants to keep United’s co-chairmen Avram and Joel, two members of the Glazer family, on board. The other four Glazer siblings — Brian, Edward, Darcy and Kevin — are happy to be sold.

Rain Group, which is managing the acquisition on behalf of the Glazers, is expected to name a preferred bidder soon. But with the Premier League having to approve any offer, the takeover streak is expected to ring for some time to come.

United after Ferguson
Den Haag are keen on signing Ivan Ferguson from Brighton, despite rejecting the striker after a trial. The Republic of Ireland international, 18, supported United as a boy but joined the Seagulls in January 2021 after failing to sign a deal at Old Trafford.
Ferguson enjoyed a breakthrough season with Brighton, scoring 10 goals in 23 first team appearances. United’s academy director Nick Cox is believed to have described the youngster as a '£50million-plus mistake’ – such was their regret at failing to sign him.

Osimhen’s £140m price tag
United will have to pay £140m if they want to sign Victor Osimhan from Napoli this summer. The 24-year-old Nigeria international has scored 28 goals in all competitions this season, including 23 in Serie A, as he fired his current employers to their first top-flight title in 33 years.
Napoli are determined to keep hold of their prized asset this summer, with president Aurelio De Laurentiis unwilling to let a deal go through unless someone stumps up £140m. It could prove too costly for United, especially given their acquisition history.
The good news for United is that Napoli can sign centre-back Kim Min-jae for just £43m. The South Korea international must now decide whether to swap Naples for Manchester when the transfer window opens.
