Shabusi sued Warner Chapel for breach of contract

The suite comes as the „A Bar Song (Dipsy)” singer is enjoying a major moment.

A rising country star Shaboosy is suing Warner Chappell, saying the major music publisher is ceasing its efforts to buy him out of his contract amid the success of his smash hit „A Bar Song (Tipsy).”

The lawsuit, filed Friday in Los Angeles, received Rolling StoneShaboosi allegedly tried to use a clause in his management contract that would have allowed him to pay 110 percent of his non-refundable dues so he could get out of the contract early. Given how popular „Tipsy” has become, such a move would be particularly advantageous and profitable.

The singer’s representatives sent a letter to Warner-Tamerlane (a subsidiary of Warner Chappell) last month about the contract and asked how much they were owed, but the publisher was uncooperative, the lawsuit said. „To date, Warner has refused to disclose to Plaintiff the total amount of unrecovered dues for prior advances in violation of the Management Agreement,” the lawsuit said.

Shabushi’s original record label and publisher, music company Crescendo, is named as a defendant in the suit. Singer said Crescendo instructed Warner not to provide information on the unpaid balance.

Shabusi sued both Warner and Crescendo for breach of contract. Warner did not immediately respond Rolling StoneA request for comment. Could not find contact for Kreshendo.
