Reagan: Olympic referee praises the originality of the breaker

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Australia president Anthony Albanese said the attacks on Gunn were not in the spirit of the Games.

„The Olympics are about the people who take part in the sport…and Reagan had a crack at it, good for her.”

Team officials and the Olympic breakdancing community similarly rallied around Gunn — offering her mental health support and inviting an online backlash.

„I think what’s happened with the trolls and the keyboard warriors on social media is really disappointing,” Australian Olympic great Anna Meares, who serves as the team’s chef de mission in Paris, said Saturday.

„I absolutely love her guts. I love her character,” he added.

Jeff 'J-Attack’ Dunne, who represented Australia in the men’s competition on Sunday, also praised his teammate.

„All I know is she’s represented hard and has been a lead breaker for women in Australia and I agree with her and respect her 100%,” Dunne said.

Hip-hop dance, born in New York City in the 1970s, was introduced to this year’s schedule to attract younger audiences to the games.

But some critics say that due to the organic nature of the category, it should never be included, as it is not suitable for organized competition.
