Pandya powered India to victory over Bangladesh in a crucial Super Eight clash

Bangladesh chased in vain

Bangladesh mustered some fire in their reply but not enough, started slowly and could never catch on. Although the wickets did not fall quickly, neither did the runs.

Liton Das was caught by Pandya off Yadav on 13 and Tanzid Hasan was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav’s googly on 29.

It was Kuldeep who lbw Dawhid Hridoi for 4 and then dismissed Shakib for 11 – who started to look menacing with two big hits.

Bangladesh’s hopes faded further when Jasprit Bumrah made his inevitable breakthrough by inducing Najmul Hossain Sandhu in the hands of Arshdeep Singh for 40 in the 16th over. Sandhu had a solid 32-ball knock with a four and 3 sixes.

Arshdeep then picked up a wicket of his own, his slower delivery being pulled by Jacker Ali to Virat Kohli as Bangladesh were 110/6 with four overs remaining.

Rishad tried to close the gap a bit with 24 off just ten balls before Bumrah sent the ball straight into Sharma’s hands at extra cover in the last over.

And Arshdeep went to the crease in the 14th over and ended the innings by dismissing the determined Mahmudullah, who had scored 13 off 15 balls.
