Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2024 Winners List

Creo and Sony celebrated its six winners at the second annual Sony Future Filmmaker Awards Thursday night in Los Angeles. The award program for short films provides a gateway for budding filmmakers to showcase their talent and make connections in the industry.

Winners selected by a panel of judges chaired by „The Other Boleyn Girl” director Justin Chadwick include Katie Blair in the fiction category, Olawunmi Hassan and Atabi Samson in the non-fiction category, and Solmond Macpherson and Kyle Novak in the environmental category. In the animation category, Rahim Razak in the student category and Christian Daniel in the futuristic design category.

This year’s winners and the wider shortlist participated in a week-long industry immersion program that gave filmmakers the opportunity to connect with their peers and industry leaders and gain exclusive behind-the-scenes access. The program includes workshops led by Sony Pictures executives, keynotes from key cinematographers, screenings and Q&A sessions, working with talent agents and insight into the latest technologies and use of animation, film scoring and music rights. All six winners will receive various cash prizes and Sony camera equipment.

This year’s winners were selected from 8,400 films from more than 5,000 filmmakers in 148 countries and territories submitted in six categories: fiction, non-fiction, environmental, animation, student and future format. The winners were selected by Michael Barker and Tom Bernard, co-founders and co-presidents of Sony Pictures Classics; „Civil War” and „X-Machina” cinematographer Rob Hardy; and „Game of Thrones” cinematographer Kate Reed. The winners were selected from 30 filmmakers selected by Australian filmmaker Anju Moon and cinematographer Robert Primes. Both stages of the adjudication process were chaired by Chadwick.
