Mufasa: The Lion King It comes out of the shadows and begins to practice its roar.
On Tuesday, Disney and director Barry Jenkins Theater owners gathered in Las Vegas for CinemaCon this week to screen the first teaser trailer for the film. The teaser received applause for its stunning visuals and tone and will be released in the coming weeks.
„It's been an extensive adventure,” Jenkins said while on stage.
The curiosity factor runs high when it comes to He is a fool. The musical-infused film is based on Jon Favreau's 2019 cinematography. lion king, which is based on the 1994 Disney animated classic. „The film has the same high-speed, light-hearted atmosphere that captivated audiences the first time,” said Tony Chambers, president of Disney Global Distribution.
Favreau's version grossed $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing Disney-branded film in history and the crown jewel of Disney's live-action remakes. (It was criticized for its cinematography, with some saying it should be labeled animation and not live-action).
Jenkins' film explores the background and journey of Mufasa, who grows up to become a powerful and compassionate ruler – who also happens to be Simba's father – after being an orphan who had to roam the world. The teaser hints at these themes and shows the young cub embarking on a journey across Africa.
“Audiences can expect many things from this film – an epic story and comedy with plenty of familiar faces. There are some absolutely hilarious moments and some with serious gravity,” Jenkins said, adding that there will be all new songs. „They're handcuffing me, so I can't tell you who made those songs, but I promise you the songs are absolutely amazing.”
The filmmaker, who has often spoken about growing up poor, says making a film is an intensely personal experience. When she was young, she lived with her sister, who was a single mother with two sons. While she takes care of the baby, she appears in a movie. He says he should have seen 1994 lion king 200 times with his nephews, the film's message of community and faith was therapeutic.
“So when the script Mufasa: The Lion King It came across my desk and I remember seeing these two young people dealing with very complicated emotions, and I felt like they were very caring,” Jenkins said. “The film explores Mufasa's rise to become the iconic king we all know. And yet what I love about it is that it's so heartfelt and it helps these kids just as much as these same kids I helped raise.
The sequel, which hits theaters on December 20, follows the rise of Mufasa and features a younger version of the character. It also features younger versions of the characters Timon, Pumbaa and Rafiki. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will return as Timon and Pumbaa, respectively.
Newcomers include Aaron Pierre, who voices the title character, and Kelvin Harrison Jr., who voices the demonic character Scar.
Jenkins admits it's a weird situation to get out of making indie movies — his film moonlight Won the Oscar for Best Picture – a major studio tentpole. „It was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life,” he admitted to exhibitors.
