Andrea Arnold's first narrative feature in nearly a decade, “Bird,” has been picked up by Cornerstone Films, and the company is set to debut the feature at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.
Little is known about the film, which, like much of Arnold's work, explores life on the fringes of society, except that it was shot last summer in England around Kent. It also stars two of the hottest actors in the circuit: Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski.
Starting with her BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated supporting role in „The Banshees of Inisherin,” Keoghan is currently on an amazing run with a BAFTA-nominated lead turn in Emerald Fennell's „Saltburn” and a lead role. The recently launched Apple TV+ drama „Masters of the Air.” He reportedly joined „Bird” after leaving the cast of Ridley Scott's upcoming „Gladiator” sequel, which will likely draw more interest to the project.
Rokowski, meanwhile, has seen his star rise dramatically over the past year, thanks to acclaimed roles in „Disco Boy,” „Lubo” and Ira Sachs' „Passages.” „Bird” along with A24's „Wizards!” With Pete Davidson and Naomi Scott comes Terrence Malick's star-studded biblical epic „The Way of the Wind.”
For Arnold's unique brand of social realism, „Bird” sees a return to dramatics for the first time since 2016's Cannes-winning „American Honey.” His last film was the 2021 documentary „Pasu”, which chronicled the life of a dairy cow.
„Bird” financiers include BBC Films, BFI, Pinky Promise, FirstGen and Access.
