Majority of voters under 30 say economy is biggest issue as 2024 approaches: Poll

Voters under 30 say the economy is the biggest issue facing the country as the 2024 election approaches, according to a new Emerson College poll.

By comparison, 14 percent of young voters said health was the most important issue facing the country, as 10 percent of those surveyed cited education as an important issue.

Listed crimes and housing opportunities both received 8 percent support from those aged 30 or younger, the poll found.

Seventy-six percent of respondents under the age of 30 believe their parents’ generation had better economic opportunities than they currently have, while 24 percent of those surveyed disagreed.

The new poll also detailed President Biden’s approval rating among voters heading into the 2024 election.

41 percent of respondents to the poll said they approve of the job Biden is doing as president, while 51 percent of those surveyed did not.

Biden’s approval rating among voters 18 to 24 years old is 35 percent, while he has a 41 percent approval rating among voters 25 to 29 years old.

In the 2024 Republican poll, 64 percent of respondents said they would support former President Trump, while former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley received support from 14 percent of respondents.

Seven percent of respondents said they would support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in the 2024 Republican primary, while former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and businessman Vivek Ramasamy received four percent support from respondents to the poll.

The Emerson College poll was conducted from December 4 to December 6, and a total of 1,000 respondents participated in the survey. The poll’s margin of error is three percentage points.
