Warren Zaire-Emery was mobbed by his Paris Saint-Germain teammates after receiving news that Didier Deschamps had been named in Les Bleus’ squad for their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Greece and Gibraltar.
The 17-year-old has impressed for Luis Enrique’s PSG this season, breaking into the first team despite both his youth and the talent available at the club.
He is considered by some to be the breakout star from the Ligue 1 champions and has shown a fearsome talent beyond his years in central midfield.
In 14 games so far, this time in all competitions, he has scored twice and provided five assists, and now has the chance to show what he can do on the international stage.
In a heartwarming social media video posted on X by PSG, Zaire-Emery can be seen surrounded by his teammates – including Kylian Mbappe – who were eager to share the moment with their young colleague.
A group of PSG players can be seen entering Jair-Emery’s room as first-team superstars Mbappe and best friend Achraf Hakimi see Deschamps’ team announcement and jump on his bed.
The group celebrates his moment by booing the young man in a heap before finally letting him get up.
Zaire-Emery then shakes hands and embraces Mbappe and the rest of his teammates, with a proud look on his face.
Born and raised in Montreux, a suburb of Paris, it is perhaps surprising that Jair-Emery graduated from his boyhood club to the national team.
However, he could become Les Bleus’ youngest star in more than 100 years since the First World War if he gets a few minutes in the international break.
Eduardo Kamavinga currently holds the national record at 17 and nine months, and Jair-Emery has a chance to eat that record in less than a month.
Having made his bow for PSG aged 16 in the first game of the 2022-23 season, he is no stranger to making his mark at a young age.
France top Group B, six points clear of the Netherlands after six games, with a perfect record and face Gibraltar in their group as well as Greece in the upcoming break.
