Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK next month to attend a charity awards ceremony to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
LONDON – Prince Harry will return to England next month to attend a charity awards ceremony to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s first birthday, the Wellchild charity said on Thursday.
Harry, a long-time patron of UK charity WellChild, will attend its annual awards ceremony in London on September 7 to mark the achievements of seriously ill young people. He is not expected to be joined by wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
The royal pulled out of the same charity awards ceremony last year, which took place on September 8, the day her grandmother Elizabeth died.
He died at Balmoral, his beloved Scottish country estate, aged 96, after a 70-year reign. Harry flew in from the US and flew to Scotland to be with the rest of the royal family.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla are expected to mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death in private at Balmoral.
WellChild supports children and young people with long-term medical needs. Its annual awards event aims to highlight their challenges and recognize carers who support them.
Harry is expected to mingle with the winners before giving a speech at a reception and presenting one of the awards.
Harry and Meghan are said to be attending the Invictus Games, an international sporting event founded by Harry for wounded soldiers and veterans, which begins in Düsseldorf, Germany, on September 9.
The couple, who married in May 2018, moved away from the senior royal family and moved to North America in 2020. They are now in California.
