A day after releasing the trailer for his debut film, 21 Savage announced the release of his third solo album, „American Dream,” on January 12.
„American Dream” marks the rapper's first solo album since 2018's „I Am > I Was.” Since then, he has released two collaborative albums, including 2020's “Savage Mode II” with producer Metro Boomin and 2022's “Her Loss” with Drake. The latter recently received several nominations for this year's Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Song for „Rich Flex” and Best Melodic Rap Performance for „Spin Boat U.”
Although details about the album have been scarce, Savage has released a trailer for his film, a 2019 memoir about his incarceration by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Donald Glover, his brother Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori and Fam Utherji directed the film's trailer, which sees „Atlanta” star and actor Caleb McLaughlin portray Savage across two generations.
In addition to Glover and McLaughlin, the trailer also features appearances by Natasha Lyonne, Victoria Petretti, Young Masino, Chad Lindbergh, Gail Bean, and Trusky. Although the trailer hints at an “Independence Day” release, it is not clear if this will actually be a movie.
Savage may have had a long hiatus between solo records, but he's been touring steadily since the release of „Her Loss.” Last year, he hit the road with Drake as part of Drake's joint It's All a Blur tour, and after a long battle to gain permanent US resident status, the UK-born artist embarked on his first international tour, including a debut performance. November 02 at the Arena in his hometown of London.
