Blind date: 'Sometimes I felt overwhelmed – in a good way’ | Life and style

Birgit on Solomon

What did you expect?
A fun evening with someone interesting. I chose not to think too much about it and just let things happen.

First impression?
He was carrying a novel and that was a great start for me.

what did you talk about
What are we not talking about? We forgot to order. The importance of compassion and empathy. Our careers and families. Car crashes on American road trips. aliens. Northern Lights. Our mutual love of dancing to the beat of anything. Rivers wade across mountain tops. What stops time for each of us.

Worst moment?
At times I felt a flutter (in a good way).

Good table manners?
Absolutely, and the food, service and restaurant were all great.

The best thing about Salomon?
How fondly he spoke of his children. He is a great story teller but also asks good questions. It’s really three things, but they’re all important.

Would you introduce Salomon to your friends?
Surely. He loves them and they love him.

Describe Solomon in three words
Interesting, kind, funny.

What do you think he did to you?
Scandinavian socialist do-gooder.

did you go somewhere
He took me to the train station which was a good way to keep talking.

And … did you kiss?
We hugged and said goodbye.

If you could change one thing for the evening what would it be?
It was a great experience from start to finish. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Marks out of 10?
9. I laughed all night and was so glad to meet him.

Will you meet again?
There is a geographical distance between us, but I am ready to meet again.

Solomon and Birgit on their date

Brigitte Solomon

What did you expect?
Awesome.

First impression?
Warm open smiles and hugs. The Guardian helped me land on my feet here.

what did you talk about
All the important stuff, including the not-so-important stuff.

Worst moment?
No. Being able to walk out of a restaurant without paying the bill was weird though. We can do it again.

Good table manners?
I cannot identify them as good or bad.

The best thing about Birgit?
It was easy to be around her.

Would you introduce Birgit to your friends?
That would be the choice of Birgit and my friends.

Describe Birgit in three words
Intelligent, generous and accomplished.

What do you think Birgit did to you?
I have extensive knowledge of Scandinavian mythology. The conversation flowed easily. Either I ticked important boxes or she was a caring companion. Or both!

did you go somewhere
We walked to the station to catch the last train.

And … did you kiss?
No.

If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
Nothing.

Marks out of 10?
10, why not?

Will you meet again?
There was one connection that I will always be grateful for. I will let you know…
